On 2 September 2026, HBK announced ARGOS NewLight, a fibre-optic sensor layer based on Fibre Bragg Grating technology for monitoring track and train conditions. According to HBK, the sensors connect to the existing ARGOS platform and its analytics and reporting system.

Applications include weigh-in-motion, wheel-impact load detection, wheel out-of-roundness monitoring and running-behaviour measurement. HBK states that installation on existing rails requires neither rail replacement nor welding, and that the equipment cabinet can be located up to one kilometre from the trackside sensors. These are system-configuration capabilities; suitability must be checked against the installation conditions.
