Answers to the most common questions about our products and services
Net span is the end distance minus the start distance; the start identifies where the measuring interval begins relative to the sensor. For example, ILR1171-125 measures a white target at 80% reflectivity from 0.2 to 125 m, giving a 124.8 m net span. Also check the application’s required start distance.
Not necessarily. For ILR sensors, the manufacturer lists different ranges for target reflectivity and reflector use. CSE05 capacitive ranges are specified as reduced, nominal and extended modes. Select a technology and measuring profile that fit the target, rather than the largest headline number.
No. For example, ILR1171-125 lists 1 mm resolution, while its linearity and repeatability ratings differ and depend on distance. Capacitive specifications also distinguish static from dynamic resolution. Compare each parameter using its own definition and measurement conditions.
Assess the head together with a compatible controller and channel module. Distinguish digital measuring rate, analogue bandwidth and DAQ performance. For example, the DT6220 table lists 5 kHz bandwidth but a maximum digital measuring rate of 3.906 kHz.
Not always. ILR3800-100 lists 0.05–100 m for a white target at 80% reflectivity, but 35–150 m with reflector film. Both the end and start distances increase. A reflector is not automatically suitable for an application that also needs close-range measurements.
No. An IP rating applies to the component and connections for which it is specified. The cited ILR sensors are IP67, while some capaNCDT controllers are IP40 or IP20. Check the head, controller, cables and connections separately for the selected configuration.
