An inclination sensor such as INC5701 measures the inclination of the component on which it is mounted relative to its surroundings, using inertial and gravitational principles. A rotary encoder measures rotational angular position. First define the angular quantity and its reference, then choose the technology.
For a moving component or mechanical disturbances, check sensor response and required filtering. In the INC5701 series, the manufacturer distinguishes the standard S version from the D version with SensorFUSION and a dynamic extension. Similar angular range does not make the two versions identical.
A lower cut-off frequency can stabilise the signal against short shocks and vibration, but increases signal delay. In the INC5701 manual, filtering affects both analogue and digital outputs. Select filtering for the motion that the application needs to follow.
The two should not be interchanged. The INC5701 specification lists measuring rate and filter settings separately. A low cut-off filter limits signal response even when the measuring rate is higher. Check both against the application dynamics when selecting a system.
Fix the sensor to the measured component in the orientation required by its measuring axis. The INC5701 manual allows software zero adjustment after mounting and instructs users to avoid tilting the measuring axis. Zero adjustment does not replace correct mechanical installation.
No. Distinguish sensor outputs from interfaces provided by an adapter. For example, the INC5701 manual lists RS485 and analogue outputs, while Ethernet and certain industrial protocols are specified in combination with interface modules. Select the adapter for the sensor and required protocol.
