Technology overview

Confocal chromatic sensors use white light and wavelength analysis for non-contact distance and displacement measurement. Micro-Epsilon confocalDT systems also support reflective surfaces and thickness measurement of transparent materials, depending on sensor and configuration. Select the sensor head, fibre and controller together for the range, spot size, surface angle and required measurement rate.

Quality and certification

Certified quality management, calibration certificates and calibration services at manufacturers’ facilities.

  • Every instrument is supplied with a calibration certificate.
  • Advanced calibration services at manufacturers’ facilities abroad, coordinated and supported by Elina.
  • The quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015. Certificate I31417 is valid until 7 April 2028.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about our products and services

A suitable confocal system identifies reflections from the front and rear surfaces and calculates thickness. It requires resolvable reflections and correction for the material refractive index; the optical separation alone is not corrected physical thickness.

No. For systems with a separate controller, match the head, controller, measuring window and channel operating mode. Use the documented performance of that combination rather than the maximum of an unrelated controller.

IFS is an optical head requiring a fiber and controller. IFD2410/IFD2415 integrate sensor and controller, while the cited IFD2411 is a matched separate-head/controller channel.

No. Some heads exclude thickness; others have minimum-thickness, material and layer-count conditions. Select head and controller mode together.

No. Some tables define it as a usable-signal limit with decreasing accuracy near that limit. Surface type and model are part of the specification.

Select a compact head or a 90° beam-path configuration where suitable. This arrangement can reduce installation depth. Check the measuring range and working distance of the selected head separately.
