Technology overview

Micro-Epsilon eddyNCDT sensors measure distance and displacement without contact using eddy currents in a metal target. Target material and calibration, target size and installation clearances affect suitability. Select the sensor head and electronics together for the required range, linearity, resolution and frequency response.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about our products and services

Its measuring principle requires an electrically conductive target. Match calibration to the material, including ferromagnetic versus non-ferromagnetic behavior. Target geometry and mounting can require a specific calibration.

eddyNCDT sensors address industrial applications with non-conductive oil and contamination. Target material, measuring gap and the selected model temperature and pressure conditions must still be checked.

No. Frequency response describes the system response to motion versus frequency. Digital output rate or DAQ sampling rate is separate.

No. The 3001, for example, integrates its controller, while other systems use separate head, cable and controller. Match components to the family architecture.

Do not assume so. Use the head/cable/controller combination and calibration appropriate to configuration and target material. Component changes can change specification conditions.

A shielded probe concentrates its field more around the front, while an unshielded probe has a wider field. Match target size and clearance from nearby metal to the particular probe; housing diameter alone does not define the required target area.
